ERICHSEN Lacquer and Paint Testing Machine Model : 202 C
Technical Description
DIN ISO BS, NF, SIS Equipped with electro-hydraulic drive and laterally opened cylinder. Product Lacquer and Paint Testing Machine, Model 202 C,with electro-hydraulic drive, equipped with a laterally opened test head, test tool in accordance with DIN ISO 1520, electric installation for connecting the illumination of the microscope and digital read-out for the display ot the ERICHSEN Cupping Test Value. Application This simple to operate Lacquer and Paint Testing Machine is used for rapid and accurate measurement of the elongation and adhesion properties of protective paints and other coatings of all types using the ERICHSEN CUPPING TEST in accordance with DIN ISO 1520 ISO 1520 BS 3900 : Part E4 NF T 30-019 SIS 18 41 77 on sheet metal specimens up to 1.5 mm thick and from max. 100 mm wide. The ERICHSEN Cupping Test provides valuable information on the suitability of a coating material for application in practise. Low cupping test values mean that the coated product may not withstand elongation stresses arising, resulting in corrosion of the substrate. Model 202 C is versatile and can be further enhanced by the various accessories available. The machine is a valuable tool for the quality control both for producers of paints and coating materials and for users . Principle of the Test The Lacquer and Paint Testing Machine, Model 202 C, is a bench mounted unit with a sheet steel housing, test cylinder, hydraulic unit and operatorâs control panel. The coated specimen panel is entered into the opening of the test cylinder with the coated surface facing upwards. Due to the laterally opening of the cylinder also larger sheet metal panel can be accommodated in the test head. On Model 202 C the sheet metal specimen is clamped automatically using a separate clamping piston. The speed of draw is infinitely variable from (0.2+/- 0.1) mm/sec = (12 +/- 6) mm/min in accordance with DIN ISO 1520, up to 40 mm/min, by setting a lockable control valve. The functions âDRAWINGâ and âRETURN" are initiated by pressing a push button. The surface of the specimen is subjected to bilateral bending and elongation in all directions during the cupping process. As soon as the first crack appears on the surface the movement of the ball punch is stopped by pushing a button. The ERICHSEN Cupping Depth reached can then be read off on a digital counter. On completion of the test both the drawing and the clamping piston return to their starting positions, and the specimen panel can be taken out of the test head. The hydraulic system of the Testing Machine is protected by a pressure release valve that responds when the piston reaches the end of its stroke. Accessories Special Test Tool For special cases the standard cupping test tool to DIN ISO 1520, which has a 20 mm diameter ball punch, can be exchanged against a special test tool (Test Tool Set No. 11) with an 8 mm diameter ball punch. This tool is used in cases where only narrower sheet metal specimens (30 mm to 55 mm wide) are available for testing. Microscopes for observing the test procedure For the purpose of observing the test area and deciding when a crack has formed, the use of a microscope with integrated illumination is recommended. Before the forming process has started the microscope is focused on the illuminated surface. It is not necessary to adjust the microscope during the cupping process as the microscope holder moves in synchronisation with the drawing piston. Electric Measuring Device This piece of auxiliary equipment is intended for objective and accurate electric measurement of the destruction of coatings based on the Erichsen Cupping Test. If the system is ordered in conjunction with a machine the control gear and the measuring instrument are mounted directly into the housing of the Model 202 C. The ERICHSEN Electric Cupping Test detects the instant when the crack is formed, i.e. the elongation of the coating film has passed the limit, by a method which does not depend on the subjective judgement of the operator. The drawing die is in the form of an insulated cell filled with a conducting fluid with good wetting properties. A clamp is attached to the specimen and a plug is connected to the insulated cell to make up a 6 volt AC circuit, which is only interrupted by the coating to be tested. During the Cupping Test, the smallest deflection on the display instrument signals the instant when pores have formed through the coating. The ERICHSEN Cupping Test value reached at this point represents the limit of elongation of the coating, from the point of view of its ability to act as a protection against corrosion. Camera modul VIDEOMASTER USB The VIDEOMASTER USB (resolution 1.3 megapixel) is a camera module for visual observation of lacquered and coated surfaces during the cupping process, and is provided for use with a PC equipped with an interface USB 2 only. The power supply for the camera and the illumination is effected through the USB 2 connection (300 mA). Due to the magnetic fixing device of the camera module and the preset (focused) objective, the VIDEOMASTER USB is immediately ready for use. System requirements: Processor of at least 1.3 GHz, 256 MB RAM, 32 MB graphics, 20 MB unoccupied fixed-disk memory capacity, 1 free USB 2 port, operating system WIN 2000/XP. The VIDEOMASTER USB can also be retrofitted to an existing Lacquer and Paint Testing Machine, Model 202 C.
